Adv Dent & Oral Health 4(1) : ADOH.MS.ID.555628 (2017) Introduction Traumatic dental injuries are common among pediatric dental patients. Approximately 20-30% of children have suffered dental injuries by the age of 12 [1]. Intrusion injuries, though considered rare in the permanent dentition [2], are seen more frequently in the pediatric population [3]. Intrusion is defined as a displacement of the tooth axially into the alveolar socket. Accompanied by a lateral luxation, there could be a communication or fracture of the alveolar socket [1]. This type of injury is considered severe because of severance of the neurovascular pulp supply, entrapment of the tooth in broken bone, displacement of the marginal seal and compression of the periodontal ligament [1,3,4].

Abstract BACKGROUNackgroundD & AIM: Intrusive luxation is apical displacement of tooth into the alveolar bone due to bicycle accidents, sports accidents, falls, and fights. Intruded tooth is driven into the socket, compressing the periodontal ligament. Intrusion is considered as one of the most severe luxation injuries to affect permanent dentition. Intrusion injuries are often associated w...

Treatment and prognosis of intrusive luxation can vary depending on the age of the patient, type of dentition, stage of root development, and time and severity of the trauma. Some studies have demonstrated that intrusions of up to 3.0 mm have an excellent prognosis, whereas teeth with severe intrusion or teeth that are intruded more than 6.0 mm present an unfavorable prognosis because of the oc...

The optimal treatment for intruded permanent teeth has not yet been determined. The ideal treatment option is the one with the lowest probability of developing complications such as external root resorption and marginal bone loss. Each case should be considered individually, bearing in mind the severity of the intrusion, the stage of root development, and tooth mobility. Management of an intrud...

Traumatic dental lesions are found at all ages, but most frequently in the paediatric population, in an age range of 2–5 years, a time period in which the muscle co-ordination and mental faculties of the child have still not been fully developed (1-2). At the age of 5, 1/3 of children have already suffered trauma of the deciduous teeth with fractures of the corona (26%), radicular fractures (3%...

A tooth displaced down into alveolar bone is an intrusive luxation. This injury usually is accompanied by comminution of alveolar fracture. The dislocation is frequently axial and radiographic examination reveals absence of periodontal space. The primary site for luxation injuries is the maxillary anterior region in the primary and permanent dentition with frequency higher in the primary dentit...
